What is ABRSM Theory?

• Grades 1 - 5 exams are online and on demand, meaning you can book and take them when convenient.
• Each exam includes a variety of question types across different topics.
• The syllabus gets gradually more advanced: early grades focus on note values, clefs, simple rhythms, and key signatures; by Grade 5 you encounter transposition, chord inversions, irregular time signatures, and ornamentation.

Why take it?

• Understanding theory helps you interpret, perform, and create music more confidently.
• If you want to take Practical Grades 6, 7, or 8 (instrument/voice) with ABRSM, you'll first need Grade 5 in Music Theory (or an accepted equivalent).
